A Brick & Mortar for Alexandra’s Macarons is Opening in Seattle’s Central District Neighborhood

A Brick & Mortar for Alexandra’s Macarons is Opening in Seattle’s Central District Neighborhood

Alexandra’s Macarons is thrilled to announce that we are opening a brick and mortar on 18th Avenue & Union Street in the Central District’s Parr Building. Our macaron endeavor began as a pop up and what a wild ride it has been in since our founding in 2013. We have long anticipated the opportunity to be a part of the fabric of a neighborhood and couldn’t be more excited to open Alexandra’s Macarons & Café later this summer!

We are honored to plant roots in the space that Tougo’s Coffee called home for many years. "Living just around the corner from Tougo I was a regular patron and had several key meetings here in my business’ early days. I have deep respect for the neighborhood hub that was so thoughtfully stewarded by Brian and team. I am humbled that Brian chose Alexandra’s Macarons to carry forward this legacy of creating space to serve this community," Chef & Founder, Alexandra Greenwald

Thus far, the mission of Alexandra’s Macarons has been to bring joy to you. We’ve had the privilege of popping up with Gertrude at celebrations, neighborhood farmer’s markets, and annual events like the Renegade Craft Fair and Urban Craft Uprising. We have loved meeting so many of you and have loved the community that has formed around our shared loved for French macarons. But, not having a location where people can find us on the daily has had its challenges.

These challenges were brought into focus during this time of coronavirus. With farmer’s markets closed to prepared food vendors and other gatherings and events canceled, we have pivoted to delivery. The support has been overwhelming. Thank you! We aren’t going to stop hustling and evolving to bring macarons and joy to our community, but particularly in this time of fragmentation, we feel deep gratitude for the opportunity to have a space to bring people together.

“It’s an overwhelming, exciting feeling to be opening a café,” says Chef & Founder, Alexandra Greenwald. “I have been working toward this my whole career. Gertridue and I have loved being on the road and will always be down for an adventure or a pop up, but I’m thrilled to plant roots in this neighborhood.”

Alexandra’s Macarons & Café will be a space for people to connect, have good conversations, enjoy a glass of wine with a friend, or savor a macaron while reading a book. We will be open for breakfast, lunch, and happy hour.

Our concept will center around  our signature hand-piped French macarons. The café will feature a Macaron Tasting Bar — the pastry version of the Chef’s Table, with a selection of sweet and savory macarons made to order.

We will be open for breakfast, lunch, and happy hour. We will have a full coffee program, tea, wine, and beer. Our menu will be French inspired with a focus on seasonal, local ingredients. Vegetarian dishes will lead with carnivore add-ons to offer something for everyone.

Breakfast will feature fresh baked pastries, a frittata of the day, and seasonal savory dishes.

Lunch will feature a salad of the day with fresh greens and vegetables sources from our garden and local purveyors. We will also serve grain bowls, soups, and a selection of sandwiches on our house made, naturally leavened bread.

Apéro will feature a curated selection of beer and wine and tartine boards with local cheeses, olives, pickled vegetables, and seasonal fruit. A few days a week we will fire up our wood fire to serve sourdough pizzas and flatbreads.

Our desire is to foster a community gathering space for our neighbors and macarons friends from across the city to enjoy delicious food. We look forward to being a space to mark your special moments and to host your special events, when it becomes safe to do so.

Our café will have a retail space featuring macaron gift sets and other locally produced and sourced goods.

We feel excited to host a guest chef dinner series, culinary collaborations, classes, and workshops in the future. Our first few months will be spent getting to know our neighbors, seeing what already exists, and listening to what this community needs in this season.

“I couldn’t have made it to this point without the support of so many — our loyal customers, wholesale accounts, fellow small business colleagues, mentors, dear family and friends, and our committed team at the bakeshop. Thank you for making it possible to live into this dream.” — Chef & Founder Alexandra Greenwald

We can’t wait to welcome you all in to enjoy the delicious dishes and full line up of macarons that we are ready to whip up for you. Follow along as we embark on this new journey on Instagram @alexandrasmacarons. We will be sharing the behind the scenes as we build out our café and other exciting news as it develops.

We look forward to celebrating with you and hope to host a grand opening in August 2020. Bon appetit!
